Wild Roses Festival MEDIA Mission Statement:

Our all female media team at the Wild Roses Festival captures the essence and experience of the event through un-directed photography and videography. We aim to go beyond appearances and convey what it truly feels like to be part of our empowering community.

 MEDIA Core Values:

Authenticity: We capture genuine moments that reflect the true spirit of the festival and the diversity of its participants, our dear Roses

Immersion: We transport our audience into the heart of the experience, evoking the sensations and transformative energy of the Wild Roses Festival.

Storytelling: We use visual storytelling to connect viewers with the festival, leaving a lasting impact and inspiring others to join our empowering community.

Empathy and Respect: We approach our work with empathy, respect, and inclusivity, fostering an atmosphere of trust and understanding.

Innovation and Creativity: We embrace innovation and creativity to push the boundaries of visual storytelling and create awe-inspiring content. We proudly raise the bar in women's festival media creation, setting the standard high with every endeavor we undertake.

FAQ's

gear packing list

All media volunteers are expected to bring their own gear.

Here is a list of what to bring and what not to bring:

  • 1 camera body (we do not recommend shooting with 2 bodies as we want you to document very intentionally).

  • Lenses: We are not picky about which lens you use. Depending on your assignments, there may be times when a wider lens would be best (for capturing wide shots of crowds during presentations) and times when a macro lens might be great (for capturing food at the market). However, don't worry if the only lens you own is a 50mm, as that is probably the best overall lens to bring.

  • Lighting: Lighting is allowed when needed, but please be mindful of the presence it creates — our goal is to document the festival as organically as possible. That said, we encourage intentional lighting in spaces like the Boho Barn and during evening DJ sets where it enhances the vibe.

  • Batteries + Chargers: As there is limited power on the property, we ask that you come prepared with enough batteries to last you through the 12 hours of total photography/videography volunteering.

off duty media roses

Even when off duty, our media volunteers are ambassadors of the festival brand, and we kindly ask them to embody the values and spirit of the Wild Roses Festival.

While enjoying personal time, we encourage our volunteers to embrace a respectful and inclusive mindset, treating others with kindness and empathy. It is important to remember that their actions and interactions reflect upon the festival as a whole, so we invite them to be mindful of their behavior and uphold the principles of sisterhood, empowerment, and celebration of diversity. By embracing these principles, our media volunteers contribute to fostering a positive and uplifting atmosphere both during and beyond their official duties.

media useage

In summary, media volunteers are allowed to use the media they create for the Wild Roses Festival, which will be pre-selected and available on the main gallery site one week after the event. The chosen photos will have the signature Wild Roses preset, but volunteers are welcome to edit their photos in their own style if desired. When sharing on social media, we kindly request that volunteers credit the photos with the following: "Created while on the media team for @wildrosesfestival." For any images not selected for the main gallery, prior approval is required for editing and usage. If there are photos that volunteers would like to use but were not selected, please reach out to the media team heads, Sofia and Sheri, via email.

The Wild Roses Festival will credit all media volunteers when utilizing their digital assets on social media. The main gallery will be organized by the photographers' names. We will make every effort to ensure proper image crediting when used by festival attendees online, although we will not actively monitor or police the usage.

The Wild Roses Festival will feature media created by its volunteers on its website, including a dedicated section to express gratitude to all the media volunteers. However, to maintain a clean and streamlined appearance, individual content pieces will not be credited in every section of the site.

memory cards

For efficient memory card management, we will provide each photographer and videographer with SD memory cards to use throughout the festival. We kindly request that volunteers pick up their assigned cards at the media hub before their shift and return them at the end of the shift. This enables our in-house editing and culling team to promptly begin working on the photos. If any volunteer requires a different type of memory card for their camera, please notify us in advance.

assignments in general

When it comes to assignments, we have a variety of opportunities for capturing the essence of the festival.

For workshops and presentations, we encourage you to capture a range of shots, including wide angles showcasing the vibrant community of Roses in attendance, close-ups of speakers to highlight their expressions, shots that encompass both the speaker and the engaged crowd, and undirected moments that convey the natural flow of the event.

In your photography, explore all perspectives and angles—think far-reaching shots that encompass the grand scene, close-ups that reveal intricate details, high-angle shots that offer a unique vantage point, and low-angle shots that add depth and dimension. Exhaust all creative possibilities when shooting, seeking to capture the festival in its entirety.

However, we urge you to be intentional in your approach. Rather than coming back with an overwhelming number of images. Be thoughtful and deliberate in documenting each day. Quality over quantity is our guiding principle, emphasizing the significance of meaningful and impactful photography.

While festival goers have consented to the presence of media through their ticket purchase, it's essential to be attuned to energy and individuals' comfort levels. If someone gives off signals of discomfort, respect their boundaries and find alternative subjects to focus on. It is crucial to maintain a respectful and considerate approach in all your interactions.

approach

Photography & Videography Approach for the Festival:

  • Smile and melt away the intimidation factor of our giant cameras.

  • Match the energy: slow and gentle at sensitive workshops, dance and groove when everyone else is.

  • Be mindful and respectful of others' comfort levels

  • Activate your emotional radar: capture the full spectrum of feelings - sadness, anger, joy. Don't be afraid to document emotions that make YOU uncomfortable, that is part of growing as an amazing photographer/videographer. Remember we want our media to evoke feelings and sometimes it's anger or sadness.

Get ready to snap and film with joy, adapt to the energy, and be respectful of boundaries. Let your creativity flow and evoke intense emotions through your media. Remember, you're documenting an incredible festival and playing a vital role in its growth.

So, have fun and let the world feel the magic of the Wild Roses Festival!

photography tips

video tips

  • Connect with your fellow media Roses as we have quite the mix of talent and experience on our media team this year

  • Embrace the dreamy look with lower apertures (~1.2F) for that on-brand Wild Roses Festival vibe

  • Use higher apertures (F7+) for bright sunny moments and capturing wider shots and crowds

  • Optimize your focusing technique by switching to back button focus for better control and accuracy. If you haven't taken your camera out of it's default soft touch focus and done this already you can thank us later. (Youtube: How to put my camera in back button focus, make sure to practice before the festival as there is s light learning curve with this)

  • Shoot in JPG (largest possible) for the festival, as we don't require raw files

  • Shooting in JPG challenges you to capture the perfect image in-camera, improving your photography skills

  • Fun fact from Sofia's Concert Experience: In large production concerts, photographers are often asked to submit JPG images for media use the next day. This practice enhances your ability to capture the moment as it truly appeared, without relying on editing.

  • Lights, camera, vertical action! Videographers, we want you to film in portrait orientation for all your clips. They'll be used in our social media reels and TikToks, where they'll truly shine. Get ready to capture the festival's magic in vertical style
