Taylor Seal
Taylor has the mind of a scientist and the heart of an artist, always toeing the line between the two. Her curiosity led her to completing a bachelor of science, but her love of working with youth shifted her path to receive a bachelor of education. Through many different jobs and volunteer roles with kids and youth, she always found ways to share her passions and help ignite curiosity and creativity in those she worked with. From a young age, she was always drawn to textiles, and fibre arts have been her primary focus for years. Starting out in sewing and then knitting, she slowly expanded her skill set incorporating embroidery, crochet, felting, macramé, weaving, and anything else she could dip her toes into. The one that's captured her the most has been natural dyeing - its the perfect blend of science and craft. There is something magical about being able to coax the colour from a plant onto fibres. Learning about natural dyes has been a means to build a connection with the land she lives on and plants both near and far. Due to a sudden injury and disability, she has been on a journey of recovery for the last 6 years. This forced time for slowing down and focusing on growth has fed her creative practice. As with recovery, natural dyes require a focus on the process, slowing down, and embracing the unexpected. This time led her to starting Tansy Textiles as a means to share her craft. Tansy Textiles uses plant dyes and upcycled materials to create one-of-a-kind sustainable textiles. She transforms discarded textiles into functional art that is meant to be used, worn, worn out, repaired, and used some more. She hopes to share her passion with you and spark your curiosity to learn more about naturally dyed textiles.
Bundle Dyeing with Plant Dyes
Attendees of this bundle dyeing workshop can expect a hands-on, creative experience exploring the art of natural dyeing. Using leaves, flowers, dried plants, and other natural materials, participants will learn how to bundle dye fabric by arranging plant matter directly onto two projects. They’ll discover how to coax vibrant colors and patterns from nature, roll and tie their bundles for dyeing, and witness the magic of their creations as they unwrap their finished pieces.
